In Florida, our dedicated director, Sensei Keith Moore, based in West Palm Beach, hailing from Syracuse, New York, is passionate about sharing his expertise in Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Genbu-Kai with individuals of all ages, genders, abilities, and races.

1938: Birth and Early Training
September 15, 1938: Fumio Demura is born in Yokohama, Japan.
Initiates Kendo and Karate training with Asano Sensei.
1950s: Itosu-Kai & Black Belt Achievement
1950: Commences training in Itosu-Kai under Ryusho Sakagami Sensei.
1956: Achieves his first black belt in karate.
1950s-1960s: Championship Wins and Diversified Training
1957: Secures first place in East Japan Championships.
1958: Embarks on Iaido study under Ryusho Sakagami Sensei.
1959: Commences Kobudo training with Shinken Taira Sensei.
1961: Triumphs in the All-Japan Karate Championships.
1960s-1970s: Move to the USA and Leadership Roles
1965: Relocates to the USA as Chief Instructor/Director of Japan Karate-Do Itosu-Kai.
1965: Organizes the First Annual International Goodwill Tournament.
1968: Assumes the role of Chief Director of the Olympics Karate Policy Committee.
1971: Hosts the first Annual International Goodwill Karate Championships.

1969: Inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame as "Sensei of the Year".
1975: Recognized again in the Black Belt Hall of Fame as "Martial Artist of the Year".
1986: Attains the rank of 7th Dan (Black Belt) in Shito-Ryu Karate.
1989-2000: Continuous Learning & Hall of Fame Inductions
1989: Initiates the study of Batto-Ryu with Taizaburo Nakamura Sensei.
1999: Inducted into the Martial Arts Museum Hall of Fame.
2000: Enshrined into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame.
2001-2005: Leadership & Milestone Celebrations
2001: Assumes the role of Chief Instructor/Director of Shito-Ryu Karate-Do Genbu-Kai.

1980s: Early Training and Introduction to Martial Arts
October 21, 1980: Sensi Keith Moore starts his martial arts journey as the Genbu-Kai Florida Chief Instructor.
Begins training at the Cortland Family YMCA, south of Syracuse, New York, and is introduced to Judo and Ju-Jutsu.
December 1987: Achieves Sho-Dan and receives black belt.
Late 1980s - Early 1990s: Dojo Opening & Teaching
November 1989: Opens his first dojo in LaFayette, a suburb of Syracuse.
Over the next two years, splits time teaching between the Cortland and LaFayette dojos.
1995 - 2002: Seminar Hosting and Expansion
Hosts annual Fall Genbu-Kai seminars and tournaments, collaborating with Oneonta's spring events.
1996 - 1997: Expansion to New Jersey
Assists Senpai Hobbib in initiating the New Jersey Genbu-Kai.
2001: Dojo Expansion in Central New York
May 2001: Expands and opens a second location in Fayetteville, concurrently operating two martial art schools in Central New York.
2003: Relocation to South Florida
October 2003: Presented with job opportunities in the Ft. Lauderdale area, Moore Sensei moves to South Florida.
2003 - 2005/2006: Miami Rengo-Kai & Introduction of Kobudo
Travels weekly to the Miami Rengo-Kai, under Doug Stein's guidance, to assist teaching and introduces Kobudo and Batto.
July 2004: Relocates to the Palm Beach area.
2009 - 2010: Teaching in Palm Beach County & Dojo Opening
January 2009: Starts teaching within the Palm Beach County School system in their adult education program.
December 2010: Opens a dojo in Royal Palm Beach, Florida, establishing Genbu-Kai Florida.
2016: Recognition & Hall of Fame Induction
February 2016: Inducted into the Genbu-Kai Black Belt Hall of Fame.
