Shihan Demura began studies in kendo in 1940 wih Ryusho Sakagami and Sensei Taizburo Nakamura in Yokohama, Japan. In 1955, Shihan began studies in Iai-Do. In 1988, Master Nakamura, Seiji Ueki and other masters came to the USA and introduced Batto-Do to Orange County at the first Karate Tai-Kai.
